"Dune: Prophecy" Season 1 Recap: Everything You Need to Know

Following the devastating war against the thinking machines, House Harkonnen is branded as cowards and exiled to the frozen wasteland of Lankiveil, while House Atreides claims all the glory. Refusing to accept a history she believes was written by liars, a young Valya dedicates her life to shifting the galactic balance of power.

To avenge her brother Griffin — who sought to clear their family's name but died at the hands of the Atreides — Valya orchestrates a ruthless counterstrike. She manipulates her sister, Tula, into infiltrating the rival bloodline, a mission that ends with Tula poisoning her lover, Orry Atreides, and his family. Ostracized by their remaining relatives, the sisters depart for Wallach IX and join the Sisterhood under Mother Superior Raquella. A war hero, Raquella trains acolytes as Truthsayers and embeds them as advisors across the Great Houses. Concurrently, she uses a forbidden thinking-machine computer to run a covert genetic breeding program aimed at cultivating perfect rulers. Valya quickly becomes the Mother Superior's most loyal disciple.

Upon the elderly Raquella's death, her pious granddaughter, Dorotea, attempts to destroy the breeding program, viewing it as technological heresy. Left with no alternative, Valya secretly assassinates Dorotea using the Voice and eliminates her loyalists. She usurps leadership of the Order, intent on seeing the grand design through.

Decades later, Valya and Tula initiate the final phase of their imperial takeover: placing a Sisterhood loyalist on the throne. The Order has groomed Princess Ynez of House Corrino since childhood for this exact role. After marrying a young heir from House Richese, Ynez is scheduled to train on Wallach IX before succeeding her father as Emperor.

This meticulously crafted plan shatters when Desmond Hart arrives in the capital. A mysterious soldier who survived a rebel ambush on Arrakis, Desmond harbors — and controls — a highly adaptive nanoscale virus linked to the forbidden thinking machines. The affliction incinerates victims from the inside out. Driven by an intense hatred for the Order, he murders the Richese groom and infects the Imperial Truthsayer, Sister Kasha. Driven to paranoia by virus-induced terror, Kasha abruptly flees to Wallach IX. Before burning alive, she unwittingly introduces the contagion into the Sisterhood.

Valya rushes to the capital to salvage her political standing, but Desmond outmaneuvers her. Preempting the Mother Superior’s attempt to regain the Emperor's trust, Desmond exposes a rebel conspiracy to the Imperial court, permanently stripping the Order of its influence over House Corrino. Despite the setback, Valya secures a sample of Desmond’s blood — a potential key to understanding the threat.

Left in charge on Wallach IX, Tula coerces an acolyte named Lila into undergoing the lethal Spice Agony ritual, hoping to contact Raquella for guidance. The experiment partially succeeds, but Lila's body is permanently hijacked by the vengeful consciousness of the murdered Dorotea. Speaking through the acolyte, Dorotea exposes the truth about Valya's past crimes and destroys the breeding program's hidden computer, igniting a full-scale religious rebellion.

Simultaneously, Tula analyzes the blood sample Valya sent and discovers a horrifying truth: Desmond Hart is the secret child she conceived with Orry Atreides. She abandoned him decades ago to spare him from Valya's influence, allowing her son to forge his own path. Resolving to confront Desmond directly, Tula departs for the capital, abandoning the escalating chaos on Wallach IX.

Meanwhile, the political hierarchy completely collapses on the capital world. Realizing he has been a pawn his entire life, Emperor Javicco commits suicide. Empress Natalya exploits the situation by assassinating the Emperor's former lover, Sister Francesca, framing the Sisterhood for the ruler's death, and seizing absolute military control.

With Princess Ynez imprisoned by her own mother after speaking out against the family, Valya orchestrates a jailbreak. Leaving a shapeshifting Face Dancer Sister in the cell to pose as the Princess, Valya escapes with Ynez and her Atreides swordmaster, Keiran. Desmond intercepts them en route to their ship, but Tula arrives just in time to help Valya overpower the techno-virus. After coming face-to-face with her son, Tula voluntarily surrenders to him, allowing Valya, Ynez, and Keiran to escape to the desolate planet of Arrakis.
