"The Gentlemen" Season 1 Recap: Everything You Need to Know

Upon learning that Freddy owes £8 million to Scouse drug trafficker Tommy Dixon, Eddie turns to Susie for help. She leverages her family's authority to halve the sum: £4 million in cash plus a humiliating apology. Freddy is forced to perform a dance on camera in a ridiculous chicken suit. Unable to bear the degradation, Freddy gets high on cocaine, snaps, and blows Tommy’s head off with a shotgun. To avoid an all-out war with the victim's brother, religious crime boss John "The Gospel" Dixon, Eddie and Susie hastily cover their tracks and frame Tommy's henchman for the murder.

Desperate to permanently extricate his family from the criminal underworld, Eddie visits Bobby Glass in prison and proposes a deal: he will help the syndicate find alternative plantation sites and boost their narcotics revenue, and in return, the Glasses will shut down their operation on his land and leave Halstead for good.

Honoring his end of the bargain, Eddie dives into solving the syndicate’s logistical nightmares. When a stolen cannabis van derails a shipment to Toni Blair, the head of a Kosovan-Albanian gang, Eddie agrees to steal an exclusive sports car from Colombian broker Mercy Moreno to appease him. The stolen Lamborghini turns out to be packed with high-grade cocaine, and Freddy is taken hostage by Mercy. To save him, Susie and Eddie return the drug-loaded car to the Colombian and hand over Toni Blair, whom Mercy brutally executes right in front of them.

Concurrently, Eddie scouts new territories for the Glass plantations. While attempting to expand the business into the Bassington estate, they discover that the young heir, aspiring actor Max, is a secret admirer of Adolf Hitler. Susie decides that blackmailing Max with this information is the perfect way to keep him in line and agrees to the partnership. Meanwhile, Eddie's mother, wanting to help her son, secures a land lease with the debt-ridden and legally troubled owner of the neighboring Green River farm.

When the European distribution channel stalls due to the exorbitant demands of logistician Florian de Groot, Eddie negotiates a transit deal with JP Ward’s Traveler clan. Soon after, £4 million vanishes from the syndicate's vault, and suspicion falls on the Travelers temporarily camped on the estate. Suspecting a setup, Eddie and Susie force de Groot to give up the name of the real traitor — revealing it to be Keith, one of the Glass henchmen. By handing the "rat" over to the Travelers, Eddie saves a valuable alliance.

However, once the financial target is reached, Susie declares that the newly earned cash must be laundered. Hoping to expedite the process, Eddie agrees to meet with money launderer Chucky, but the deal collapses when Susie’s brother, Jack, sleeps with Chucky’s girlfriend. In the fallout, Eddie learns that Susie has been intentionally sabotaging his exit timeline and decides to bypass his partner entirely. He goes straight to Chucky’s boss, Henry Collins, who promises to wash the entire sum in two weeks.

As Eddie attempts to force his exit, the true scale of the threat against them comes to light. American billionaire Stanley Johnston, who previously tried to buy Halstead, is revealed as the shadow player sabotaging the Glass logistics. His ultimate goal is to swallow Bobby's entire empire. At the same time, Henry Collins, whom Eddie approached for laundering, decides to forcefully seize a stake in the business. He pits a ringer against Susie’s brother, professional boxer Jack, and delivers an ultimatum: either she hands over the operation, or he starts a war, beginning with her brother being crippled in the ring. Susie refuses to cave to the blackmail, and after a brutal beating during the bout, Jack falls into a coma.

Willing to do anything to save his family, Eddie goes behind Susie’s back and gives Johnston the list of all the lords hosting Glass plantations on their lands. Discovering the secret deal and viewing it as the ultimate betrayal, Susie retaliates: she calls Gospel John and reveals that Freddy was the one who murdered his brother. A heavily armed squad of religious fanatics lays siege to the Halstead estate. A massacre is averted at the very last second when Bobby Glass intervenes. He calls off Gospel John, announces his retirement to Eddie and Susie, and puts the narcotics syndicate up for auction.

Four parties bid for the syndicate: Stanley Johnston, Colombian broker Mercy Moreno, con artist Sticky Pete, and Eddie, who pools capital from British aristocrats for a joint bid with Susie. Instead of outbidding his rivals, the Duke maneuvers them into eliminating each other. He orchestrates Johnston’s arrest for tax fraud, provokes Mercy into brutally murdering Sticky Pete, and then uses Henry Collins to eliminate the Colombian broker. Avenging Susie’s crippled brother, Eddie ruthlessly shoots Collins in the head.

With all competitors removed, Eddie and Susie present the winning £235 million bid to Bobby Glass, only to discover the entire auction was a massive loyalty test. Recognizing Eddie’s strategic ruthlessness and Susie’s operational talent, Bobby refuses to retire. Instead, he takes their money as an investment fund to expand the business and elevates them both to equal partners. Eddie permanently abandons his attempts to return to civilian life, fully embracing his status as a crime lord, while a newly incarcerated Stanley Johnston shares a luxurious prison rooftop with Bobby Glass.
