Naval investigators dismiss his claims as cognitive disorientation caused by head trauma. Confronted by institutional denial, the commander suspects senior leadership of concealing treason. His suspicions harden into certainty when the only other surviving team member, Ernest "Boozer" Vickers, is found shot dead in his apartment. The death is ruled a suicide, but Reece immediately recognizes an execution: Boozer was killed with his team-gifted, custom-engraved 9mm SIG Sauer, a weapon he openly despised in favor of the .45 caliber.

Reece's physical condition deteriorates under blinding headaches. While at an imaging clinic where an MRI detects an aggressive brain tumor, hitmen ambush him. Reece neutralizes the threat and rushes home, only to discover Lauren and Lucy executed with his own stolen, custom-engraved team handgun. From that moment on, his sole objective becomes the systematic extermination of everyone complicit in slaughtering his family and betraying his platoon.

Enlisting the aid of Voltstream war correspondent Katie Buranek and his former SEAL teammate turned CIA paramilitary officer Ben Edwards, Reece tracks down corrupt NCIS agent Josh Holder. After forcing Holder to confess to aiding the hitmen, tampering with crime scenes, and naming his paymaster, Reece executes him, crossing the first name off the list.

Acting on Holder's confession, Reece and Edwards target Saul Agnon, vice president of Capstone Industries and personal fixer for billionaire CEO Steve Horn. Under torture, Agnon exposes oil broker Marcus Boykin as the middleman who contracted cartel hitmen. Reece administers a fatal methadone overdose to Agnon, then snipes Boykin on the highway.

Seeking retribution against the trigger-pullers, Reece travels to Mexico, where long-time family friend Marco Del Toro provides safe harbor, medical supplies, and weapons. Reece breaches a fortified cartel compound and kills the direct murderer of his family, the assassin El Navajas.

Meanwhile, Buranek’s investigation exposes the root of the conspiracy: Capstone was finalizing a multi-billion-dollar acquisition of Nubellum Pharmaceuticals, the developer of RD-4895, an experimental drug engineered to prevent combat-related PTSD. The military secretly tested the compound on Alpha Platoon without informed consent, triggering aggressive brain tumors across the entire unit. To protect the lucrative buyout and dodge a court-martial, Horn and defense officials intentionally funneled the unit into the Syrian ambush to bury the human trials alongside the bodies.

Reece brings the fight directly to Capstone's corporate headquarters in downtown San Francisco, detonating an explosively formed penetrator against Horn's armored motorcade and shooting the billionaire point-blank in the skull. Following Horn’s death, Reece becomes America's most wanted fugitive. In the rugged San Bernardino Mountains, an FBI task force led by Special Agent Tony Layun pursues him. Wounded and isolated, Reece employs guerrilla survival tactics: he dresses his own wounds and sets perimeter traps, yet deliberately spares the federal agents hunting him. Over a tactical radio, Reece explains his motives to Layun, eroding the FBI agent's faith in the official narrative. Trusted combat pilot Liz Riley airlifts Reece out of the dragnet in a light aircraft.

Returning to California, Reece focuses on the military commanders who authorized the human trial and subsequent cover-up. Aided by Edwards, he methodically eliminates senior leadership: he drowns Commander Bill Cox in the ocean surf outside a Coronado bar, then takes JAG officer Captain Leonard Howard's family hostage, forcing Howard into a Claymore suicide vest and directing him into the office of WARCOM chief Admiral Gerald Pillar, where Howard detonates the charges, killing both officers.

Reece’s final target is Defense Secretary Lorraine Hartley. Buranek reveals Hartley’s father suffered from debilitating PTSD, turning the development of a medical cure into her personal obsession. To expedite RD-4895, Hartley bypassed standard FDA approvals. When the drug proved lethal, she orchestrated the cover-up to protect her political career and prospective presidential bid, knowingly sacrificing Reece’s platoon.

Reece infiltrates Hartley’s fortified estate on Orcas Island, cutting through private Talos contractors and evading federal tactical teams. Inside the bunker, Hartley attempts to defend her actions to Buranek under the guise of the greater good, but the journalist records her confession on tape. As Reece breaches the inner room, the cornered Secretary shoots herself in the head.

The climax arrives when Buranek uncovers the banking routes of shell company Oberon Analytics. The twenty million dollars wired through a Peruvian bank was never intended for Hartley, but for Ben Edwards. Reece corners his closest friend aboard his sailboat, where Ben admits he leaked the platoon's coordinates, rationalizing that dying in combat was more merciful than wasting away from brain cancer. Reece shoots Edwards, crosses off the final name, and navigates his sailboat into international waters bound for Mozambique.
